EVP
What is electronic voice phenomena?
Electronic voice phenomena - or EVP - is a mysterious event in which human-sounding voices from an unknown source are heard on recording tape, in radio station noise and other electronic media. Most often, EVPs have been captured on audiotape. The mysterious voices are not heard at the time of recording; it is only when the tape is played back that the voices are heard. Sometimes amplification and noise filtering is required to hear the voices.
Some EVP is more easily heard and understood than others. And they vary in gender (men and women), age (women and children), tone and emotion. They usually speak in single-words, phrases and short sentences. Sometimes they are just grunts, groans, growling and other vocal noises. EVP has been recorded speaking in various languages.
The quality of EVP also varies. Some are difficult to distinguish and are open to interpretation as to what they are saying. Some EVP, however, are quite clear and easy to understand. EVP often has an electronic or mechanical character to it; sometimes it is natural sounding. The quality of EVP is categorized by researchers:
Class A: Easily understood by almost anyone with little or no dispute. These are also usually the loudest EVPs.
Class B: Usually characterized by warping of the voice in certain syllables. Lower in volume or more distant sounding than Class A. Class B is the most common type of EVP.
Class C: Characterized by excessive warping. They are the lowest in volume (often whispering) and are the hardest to understand.
The most fascinating aspect of EVP is that the voices sometimes respond directly to the persons making the recording. The researchers will ask a question, for example, and the voice will answer or comment. Again, this response is not heard until later when the tape is played back.
Where do the voices come from?
That, of course, is the mystery. No one knows. Some theories are:
They are voices of people who have died. This is why many researchers go to cemeteries seeking EVPs (and often with great success). In this context, the phenomenon is sometimes called Instrumental transcommunication or ITC.
They are from another dimension. It is theorized that there may be many dimensions of existence, and somehow beings from some other dimension are able to speak and communicate with ours through this method. A good question is, however: How do they know English and other languages of our dimension?

Preliminary Cleansing When building your first shield, it seems rather
ridiculous to lock in any negative energies you may be carrying with
you currently. Therefore, a preliminary cleansing, as follows: Stand
in a quiet place and center your energies. Visualize a gleaming sharp
sword in your hand. Use it joyously, vigorously slicing through the
air close to your body on all sides, over your head and under your
feet.
As you slash, visualize all unfriendly or negative ties being severed
and the ends
shriveling away to nothing. Do not be specific -- "this tie, that tie"
– ALL unfriendly ties are being cut! Note that friendly and unfriendly
ties exist on different planes, so you can't damage the friendly ties
-- although you may be surprised that ties you thought were friendly,
aren't -- and vice versa. It is not necessary to do this every time
you work on your shields, although a once-a-year cleansing and general
housecleaning could not hurt.
Other helpful rituals include: The Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram;
the Middle Pillar; the Kabalistic Cross; any other cleansing/grounding
rituals you may be aware of.
Visualizations You have to decide every detail of the visualization of
your shields. What shape will it take? What color (if any)? What
materials? What appearance? These are the basics; we'll touch on the
embellishments later.
Shapes - Round, spherical, cylindrical, square, cube, pentagon, pentagram,
ovoid, and any other shape you like. If you can form and hold a duodecahedron
in your mind's eye, go to it!! Colors - Any color of the rainbow, and
a few never seen on this plane are all acceptable. White is one
commonly-used color, but if you want
Chartreuse, go ahead! Try to avoid black; not for its effect on you,
necessarily, but for not giving the wrong signals to the folks you
might want to be working with.
Textures - Vary widely; from brick walls to energy cocoons, to steel spheres
and laser force fields. Whatever your mind conceives of as protecting is what
you use.
Warning - Leaving this construct semi-permeable is strongly advised. This
leaves you open to receiving positive energies while still giving you
protection, and allows the important vibration interactions that lead
to growth.
THE PROCESS
Once you have decided, what you shield will be, sit quietly and begin
to visualize it around you in the form you have chosen. Take 10 or 15
minutes to get it solid and clear to your inner eyes, and then quit
for the day. Once a day for a week, re-visualize your shield and
strengthen it. Then check your shield once a week for the next month,
re-visualizing and strengthening as needed. After that, check on your
shield as you feel it's needed, but at least once a year. Keep in mind
that once your shield is well established, it is self-sustaining and
maintaining. Eventually, the only times you'll need to be aware of
your shield is at its yearly housecleaning, when you think of an
improvement, or when it's reacting to a threat.
EMBELLISHMENTS AND NIFTY EXTRAS
Attach a vial of Essence of Poison Ivy, to react upon attack.
Silver-mirror the outer covering. Add glue or rubber bands to the
outside of your shield. Don't forget to clean more often if you use
glue. An automatic maintenance system. A sorter. Friendly energy
breezes in, unfriendly energy is repelled. A detection device. Allows
a thinner shield, which sounds an alarm when confronted with
negativity. A grounding device. This simply grounds negative energy it
encounters. A slingshot, to return negative energy to its source. Can
be amplified to use the law of threefold return. Any other
embellishments you can justify in the name of defense.
You can burn all of the incense that you want.
SMUDGING
Smudging is the process of burning herbs, in the Native North American
tradition. It is a way to cleanse negative influences from the body,
an object or a given area.
Smudging is a sacred ceremony, a tradition dating back to hundreds of
years. It has its roots in the indigenous cultures of the world.
Archeological digs reveal evidence of incense burning during rituals
or ceremony. The priest waves his incense around the altar, and then
waves it in front of the congregation. In Bangkok, the evening breeze
carries the smell of burning incense, the smell seems to pervade
through the whole city.
Some cultures perform a form of smudging after burial of a loved one;
every member of the family is smudged prior to entering the house
after the funeral.
This is to ward off negative spirits roaming around the departed prior
to death, especially after a prolonged illness and difficult death.
It is also believed to banish lost souls who wander in the cemetery
and "cling" to the grieving relatives.
SMUDGING can be used to shield and ground us, strengthen our
intentions before and after healing, initiation or ritual.
It helps clear a room after an argument, protect a room from negative
and other unwanted energies. Some herbs are believed to help in
psychic work, visions and prophetic dreams.
The surrounding area around the home, even the vehicles we own can be
smudged for protection and to clear away unwanted and negative
influence.
HOW TO SMUDGE
Smudging is the common name given to the Sacred Smoke Bowl Blessing, a
powerful cleansing technique from the Native American tradition.
Smudging calls on the spirits of sacred plants to drive away negative
energies and put you back into a state of balance. It is the psychic
equivalent of washing your hands before eating - and used as an
essential preliminary to almost all Native American ceremonies.
YOU WILL NEED: smudge stick or crushed herbs (crushed herbs will need
to be burned on a charcoal block), matches, a small ceramic or stone
bowl, metal cauldron or a large shell (a saucer will do) a large
feather. Some believe that lighting you charcoal block or smudging
stick off a charged candle is more effective and spiritual.
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Light the end of your smudge stick and let it burn for a few
minutes until the tip starts to smolder. You may need to fan the
flames for a while to get the smudge really smoking. Then extinguish
the flame so the smudge stick smokes. Or drop a small amount of
crushed herbs on a burning charcoal block. (It takes the charcoal
block a little while to get hot so give it some time.)
2. Call on the spirits of the smudge to cleanse and protect you, saying:
"Sacred herbs drive away all negativity from my heart; take away
everything unworthy and impure."
3. First waft the smoke towards your heart. Hold the smudge stick away
from you and use the feather to waft the smoke towards you. Then take
the smudge smoke over your head, down your arms and down the front of
your body. Imagine the smoke lifting away all the negative thoughts,
emotions and energies that have attached themselves to you.
4. Breathe in the smudge, visualizing the smoke purifying your body
from the inside. (Note: be careful if you suffer from asthma or
respiratory difficulties. Experiment cautiously).
5. Now bring the smoke down the back of your body towards the ground.
Visualize the last vestiges of negativity being taken back into the
earth, away into the air.
6. Repeat your smudging once again, this time calling on the spirit of
herbs in this way:
"Sacred herbs bring me the positive energy I need to do this work.
Help me to come into balance. Purify my soul."
As you smudge, imagine yourself being surrounded by gentle, loving
energy. Breathe in positively, courage and love.
SMUDGING SOMEONE ELSE
1. You can use exactly the same technique to smudge another person.
Except you hold the bowl and waft the smoke over the other person.
2. You can ask them to repeat the words after you. You might also want
to ask them if they feel any sense of blockage or uncomfortable
feelings in any part of their body. If so direct the smoke towards
that part in particular and ask the spirits of the Smudge to help
release the blockage.
3. You may also direct smudge to each of the person's chakras (above
the head, at brow level, at their throat, at the heart, the solar
plexus, the genitals, the base of the spine). Visualize each chakra
coming into balance as it is purified by the smudge.
There are different ways to smudge, as there are herbs to use. Trust
your intuition; be guided by your Spirit. Before smudging, prepare
everything needed- the shell or ceramic container, sand or charcoal
for a base, matches, decide what herb to use, feather or Peyote wand.
It is not advisable to breathe on the herbs, this introduces unwanted
influence. Fan with your hands if you do not have a feather available.
But do not blow on the herbs. A moment's meditation to state the
purpose of the smudging gives the process sanctity, reverence and it
defines the sincerity of purpose. Invoke the power of Love and Peace
as you smudge. Drive the smoke
with the feather or your hands over the person, object or room to be smudged.
Cleansing objects
Hold the objects to be purified in the smoke or fan the smoke over
them. If you are clearing your crystals prior to programming them
thank both them and the herbs for helping you to realize your goals.
"I break up and release all negative and stagnant energy in this
object. May peace, light and divine love protect it and be ever
present."
To smudge a house or room:
Start at the main door. Go clockwise; thoroughly drive the smoke to
the walls, around the whole perimeter of the room. Every window, every
door. Concentrate on your intention. You may want to do one room at a
time. Give a good dose of smoke, think of the positive energy,
positive thoughts as you wave the smoke throughout the room. Leave a
small opening in the window to let the air take out the negative
energy. Some will argue this point. Close the window, smudge again,
this time with window closed to keep the positive energy in the room.
After the process, light a white candle to "seal" the effects of the
smudging. Do not
forget to say a prayer of thanksgiving.
"I break up and release all negative and stagnant energy in this
place. May peace light and divine love protect us and be ever
present."
A room can be smudged for different reasons- after an argument, when
one feel something unpleasant or a negative energy around, smudging
can help alleviate
the negative effects.
Extinguishing the smudge
1. Have ready a fireproof receptacle such as another shell or a glass
or ceramic dish to put the smudge in when you've finished. It's ideal
to damp the herb out in sand, or earth or you can just press it
against the bottom of the receptacle. Always make sure that a
smoldering smudge herb is out before leaving the room where you keep
it.
How often should I smudge?
1. At least at the beginning of every season. You can smudge once a
day if you like, and is recommended daily for health or spirit
practitioners.
